Felicia was referred to Employment Ontario Peel Region in July 2021. Being a single mother, she was determined to get off social assistance and re-enter the workforce to provide for her child.
Felicia had been unemployed for a few years, with previous experience in the food service industry. She was hoping to find a customer service job that allowed her to work near childcare and did not involve weekend shifts. It was important for Felicia to balance work and being a parent. She was set up with Ryan, an Employment Consultant, and Sarb, a Job Developer at Job Skills.
While working towards her employment goal, Felicia qualified for the Ontario Student Assistance Program and received funds to help her complete a PSW program. As part of her studies, Felicia secured a short-term paid work term. As that was only a temporary solution, the job search continued for Felicia and the team at Job Skills.
Ryan and Sarb helped Felicia build a new resume that represented her experience and highlighted her transferrable skills. They also provided advice on interviewing and self-marketing techniques.
It wasn’t easy finding a job to suit Felicia’s unique circumstances, but in April 2022, Felicia found the job she was looking for at Pearson International Airport. The job allowed her to work four days a week, no weekends or evenings. Felicia is thriving in her new career and, in a few months, will have completed a full year of employment!
